“One day aquatic biologist Pam,

observing the penguins, saw one in a jam.

Gently, gently, she examined Pierre.

His feathers were gone.

His bottom was bare.”

Illustrated by Laura Regan

Recommended Audience: Lower Grades (Pre-K to 3rd Grade)

This is an adorable story about a troubled penguin named Pierre. At a seasoned age of 25, Pierre starts going bald! It becomes too cold for him to swim and the other penguins start to make fun of him. Luckily, Pierre has the creative and imaginative, Pam Schaller (aquatic biologist), to come to his rescue! The book is very easy to follow due to the detailed illustrations. Furthermore, the story is written in rhymes making it fun and engaging to read. The story of Pierre is based on a true event that occurred at the California Academy of Sciences, and includes questions and answers from Pam herself at the end of the book. This is a great book for young children who love animals and stories with truly happy endings!
